The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.

—Dr. Seuss

What is a Read-A-Thon?

A Read-A-Thon is a fun, community-based fundraiser that encourages kids to read while raising money for a school or organization.

How it works

  • Students gather pledges from family and friends

    • either a flat donation or an amount per minute or per book

  • Over a set period, one week, students track their reading

  • At the end, donations are collected based on how much they read

What counts as reading

  • Books, magazines, comics

  • Reading silently or out loud

  • Being read to (especially for younger kids)

Why we do it

  • Promotes a love of reading

  • Builds literacy skills

  • Raises funds for programs like art, music, librabry, and classroom resources

What makes it fun

  • Spirit days like pajama day or silly socks

  • Reading challenges and class competitions

  • Prizes, raffles, or celebrations at the end

  • And of course, all the amazing adventures books take us on!

It is basically a win win. Kids build reading habits and the school raises money at the same time.
